The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show: Complete Series

A Mini And Full Review
I say mini review because I've only wached the first disc in this set.

Well...where do I begin? This show is...well...very 70s and very silly. I know it was a kids show and I do remember watching this occasionally when I was a kid. However, to be perfectly honest, the show is better in hindsight. Unlike other kids shows, there really isn't much here for adults to enjoy. Any kid over the age of 12 would probably find this to be very boring.

Don't get me wrong. The show (at least what I've seen of it so far) does have its moments. Rod Hull and his Emu are quite funny at times. The Hudson Brothers are certainly fun to see again, but the main problem I have with the show is that it doesn't vary from the formula. At least not much. Every episode is practically the same as the one before it. Which doesn't make for marathon viewing all that enjoyable.

The picture quality is pretty good for a 30 year old 70s kids show. There doesn't appear to be any color...

Hudsons Dazzle at Last!
I was hoping someone would get around to releasing this series - at last, they have. Saturday mornings during the 1974-75 tv season were spent with the Hudson Brothers. Viewing the series today, I STILL laugh at the catchphrases from the show ("No thanks, we're trying to cut down. Frrm!" to Freddy, the kid tv exec). Like The Flintstones, the Jetsons, or Bullwinkle, this was a show aimed at the younger set but was filled with humor that older folks could appreciate as well. Top it off with great power-pop music by the Hudson Brothers (many of which were recorded specifically for the show and did NOT appear on their records) and this is one great set! The bonus is terrific: several of the funniest sketches from the Hudsons original summer replacement Wednesday night series. (I HOPE they get around to releasing THAT complete set...it may have been only four or five weeks long...but it has a few tunes I have never heard since then that I have been searching for SINCE 1974!).

It's great to see the Hudson Brothers again!
As a kid, I waited eagerly each week to see the next installment of The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show on Saturday morning. Then, after the short run of 16 episodes were shown and repeated perhaps once or twice, the show left the airwaves and left me high and dry. For more than three decades, it seemed as if virtually all memory of this show had vanished. The Hudson Brothers themselves also rapidly faded from the scene. Thus, it was indeed a delightful surprise to see these shows resurface again in any form.

When I put in the first DVD, I was quite worried that the quality of the video and audio might be abysmal, but was pleased to find them amazingly well preserved. As was noted in another review, there is one episode in particular that exhibits a few video faults early into the program, but these clear up relatively quickly. There are also some odd edits or issues in the final two or three episodes that make one wonder if something might be missing from them. My...

The Sitter

For all those who love B type Thrillers !
This was a nice and suspensful B type Thriller movie that I really enjoyed. If you are into Thrillers in general, and don't mind low budget ones, you'll really like this one.
The plot is certainly nothing new; we've seen it all before with such thrillers as "The Hand that rocks the Cradle", and the like. But yet the story manages to get exciting every now and then. The acting was really convincing, and I always like to see new faces, which also made this movie likeable.
All other things, like picture & sound quality were good to excellent with this DVD. Go and see it if you're into thrillers, because you won't regret it.

;0)
Good movie but I must say This CHICK IS CRAZY! Wow like really, makes you think twice about babysitters, she went to babysit for a couple as a live in nanny she starts having an attraction for the husband and arms anyone who gets in her way even the wife. But in the end you will see or it will make sense why she was so into the husband.

THE HAND THAT TIPPED OVER THE CRADLE
Psycho babysitters are nothing new. Remember Rebecca DeMornay's HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE?
This Lifetime movie was originally titled WHILE THE CHILDREN SLEEP is one of those guilty pleasures. Every move is calculated to be predictable: the lecherous partner of our ignorant dad; the nosy neighbor who knows too much; the workaholic mom who loses her child's affections; the mom's sexy and suspicious best friend. All fall prey to the malevolent sitter. The movie does have a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
Mariana Klaveno is quite good as Abby, the sitter, effortlessly switching from sweet to savage at the drop of a shovel. Gail O'Grady, William R Moses and Stacy Haiduk are good if not memorable.
THE SITTER is actually alittle better than most Lifetime flicks--nothing great but enjoyable.

It's a Boy Girl Thing

An Awesome Romantic Comedy!!!
This movie is very funny, and had a beautiful love story and message. It was like Freaky Friday, and The Hot Chick mixed together. Woody Deane and Nell Bedworth hate each other. They are neighbors who want nothing to do with each other. During a trip to a museum, and are forced to work together, and they begin to argue in front of a statue of the ancient Aztec god Tezcatlipoca. The statue casts a spell on them, and they wake up to swapped bodies. Woody has become Nell, and Nell has become Woody. In the process of trying to figure out how to change back, they intentionally destroy each others' social life. After Woody sticks up for Nell, they slowly begin to fall in love. I highly recommend IT'S A BOY GIRL THING!!!

When the girl has a hard time...
Gender swap comedies are a motif that Hollywood revisits every decade or so. There was Switch (1991), The Hot Chick (2002), and now It's a Boy Girl Thing. Coming out of the 80s, when women wore square shoulder corporate suits and fought the glass ceiling, there was an aggression that Ellen Barkin captured. Coming out of the 90s, when gender confusion as hip, the Hot Chick followed suit. These days however, when (young) girls flash gang signs on myspace, Muay Thai kickbox each other on the head on youtube, and curse like truck drivers, Samaire Armstrong , playing her neighbor Woody trapped within, has a much harder time showcasing the rift between the sexes.

I mean c'mon: Girls today act more like boys than boys girls.

With all her shrugs, posturing, manly strut, spitting, and cursing bravado, it all but sounds like a typical girl I see in the malls.

Kevin Zegers, on the other hand, lives up to the part by pulling out all the stops on the suddenly...

I didn't rent it but... it made me laugh.
"It's is a boy girl thing" isn't the kind of movie I'd normally rent. In fact, I didn't rent it, but when I found it in my house, I gave in to temptation and watched it. I must confess it made me laugh.

This film is very predictable, but quite funny, despite the fact that the humor is rather crude sometimes... The two main characters are Nell (Samaire Armstrong), a bright and somewhat nerdy young woman, and Woody (Kevin Zegers), a football player that has the popularity that Nell lacks, but isn't very accustomed to using his brain. Even though these typical albeit very different teenagers can't stand each other, they will have to reach a compromise, due to an spell that ends up switching their bodies. Confusion ensues, as you can imagine...

All in all, I think that those that are expecting the classic high school comedy will like it, if their expectations are just to have some fun... If that is your case, recommended.

Kathy Troccoli Greatest Video Hits

Kathy Troccoli Greatist Video Hits
It is an excellent video. My grandson (age 4 ) loves it and requests it often. I enjoy it also. I wish she had more videos available.

A Decent Effort
The videos included are great, but it's missing essentials. The most obvious, where is "Tell Me Where It Hurts"?? It's not as if Kathy has too many videos to fit on one DVD, they should all be on here.

Galaxy High School Collection

Different Galaxy, but Same Students
This was actually a phenomenal cartoon of the 80s and it is sad it did not last long. It centers around the jock Doyle and the smart geeky girl Amy. They go to high school in outer space and Amy suddenly becomes popular. Doyle becomes the outcast who has to prove himself. What makes this cartoon so great is that we have aliens who are exaggerations of the human condition. (Gilda Gossip the gossip girl has several mouths.) Doyle is befriended by the geeky, but kind hearted and smart Milo.

Doyle is an interesting main character in that he is neither remarkably altruistic, nor remarkably selfish. At his worst, he is either full of himself such as in "It Came From Earth," or his faults hurt his friends around him such as in "The Brain Blaster." At his best, he is the voice of reason who holds everyone together such as in "Where's Milo?" Doyle's arguably greatest moment is in "Where's Milo?" Milo messes up and makes several people angry at him; he disappears, and most of the...

Feel good cartoon candy...
I'd vaguely remembered this series from when I was a kid. Since I love a good trip down memory lane, I decided that I'd recheck this series out. It's almost as good as I remembered it. There's a lot that is more enjoyable as a kid, but there's also a lot of stuff that I appreciate more as an adult. Like another reviewer put it, the characters in this cartoon all represent various character types of teenage life. While this series does try to send out a message, they also make the attempt to make the series enjoyable as well.

The plot centers around Doyle (an athlete who chose to not study) as well as the brainy Amy, who is the smartest girl in school. The show tries it's best to show how important school is (Amy gets a scholarship & pretty much everything she always wanted such as clothes, friends, ect while Doyle ends up working at a pizza parlor to make ends meet) while showing that with a bit of hard work anyone can succeed.

I'm debating showing this to my...

Brings back memories...
I remember watching these cartoons back in the 80's/90's and loving the artwork and concept. I was quite pleased to bring back these classic cartoons...

The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition)

Pleasing sequel to classic original
Some of the reviews here appear abit premature (the last couple I read were from people who hadn't even seen the movie--they judged it from the trailer!). In many respects Jungle Book 2 could, on the surface, look like a cash-in similar to the Peter Pan sequel Return to Neverland (that film had been planned as a direct-to-video release originally but turned out looking so good that it was released theatrically). That's hardly the case with Jungle Book 2.

The animation uses many of the design elements from the original film and incorporates some nice computer generated imagery as well. It's a bit surprising that folks expect the voices of the original actors. The original Jungle Book was released in 1967 (if memory serves) and all the original actors have been dead for quite some time.

The voice casting for the sequel is quite good. Haley Joel Osmond (A.I., The Sixth Sense)makes a fine Mowogli and John Goodman as Baloo captures his character perfectly without imitating the late...

OK, another sequel by Disney
When I wrote these lines, there were 4 reviews on Amazon.com. None of the reviewers seemed to have seen the movie. - Well, I have seen it with my 2 1/2 year old son. I also know Disney's first Jungle Book movie. Now here is what I think:

This movie is fine for kids. They will have fun. There are no scenes that I think are too scary for small children. My son was doing fine. He enjoyed the song and dance scenes a lot and I think this is why most people like the first movie. Since the "Bear Necessities" is such a great song, it is played about three times (make your own thoughts about that). So, if you want your kids to have a good day at the movies, send them to this one.

From an adult point of view I must say that the story is not very exciting. Don't forget, this is a Disney sequel again. Disney used to release their sequels only on video and DVD (e.g. Pocahontas 2, Arielle 2, etc.). But lately they think that they should show them in movie theaters. It's too bad that Disney...

Kids will dig it, Adults will hate it
A die-hard Disney fan, I grew up with the original Jungle Book. The music, the voices, and the animation entrenched themselves so deeply into my psyche that no sequel could have done the original justice. The producers of this one must have understood that there are many like myself. So instead of tackling the challenge of producing a film to rival Walt's original masterpiece, Disney took the easy road. The result is no more than a delightly animated saturday morning kids cartoon that will keep a kid busy for an hour but will leave their parents rather frustrated. If you're looking for a tribute to- or even a continuation of- the original Jungle Book, you won't find it in this film.

First let me tell you what I liked about the movie: The animation is great! In this aspect (and this aspect only) the producers have replicated and improved on the animation of the first. The jungle is enchanting as ever, the leaves greener. Also brilliant is the voice of Jim Cummings as Kaa and...

Anthony Warrior of God

Generic and Uninspiring
This film version of the great St. Anthony of Padua is quite disappointing in that it misses the real essence of this incredible saint, and presents him as some kind of "revolutionary" and corruption seeker, even going after Church officials, etc.

Sorry, the real Saint Anthony was a very holy, learned man who loved God and man devoutly and wholeheartedly, a deeply spiritual, prayerful man whose closeness to almighty God gave him even miraculous powers to heal the sick, raise the dead, and convert the most hardened sinners. He was not a "warrior" or a "revolutionary" - he was a great Saint, one who closely imitated Christ.

A much better film version is the film "SAINT ANTHONY", starring Italian actor Daniele Liotti, also available on Amazon.

"I Want You All In Paradise!" ~ Discerning The Heart Of The World
Note: Italian with English subtitles.

The '06 film `Anthony: Warrior of God' tells the story of the 13th century Catholic saint in a reverent manner accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack which adds substantially to the feel of holiness surrounding this cinematic feature. The production values are superior and Jordi Molla is wonderful as the impassioned Franciscan monk and self-proclaimed defender of the poor and disenfranchised. His battle against the corrupt civil authorities, the ruthless money lenders and yes, even the Catholic Church is well done and believable.

There is much in here that reminds me of Franco Zeffirelli's `Brother Sun, Sister Moon' which happens to be one of my favorite films. While `Anthony: Warrior of God' has the look and feel of the Italian classic from '72, particularly in the segment at the Vatican during his audience with the Pope, it falls short of duplicating the simple, innocent charm and emotional impact of the Saint Francis...

not well done at all - not velar to understand many things - would not recommend it and in fact we got rid of it immediately after watching it the first time -

Army Wives: The Complete First Season

Wives is the female side of Miltary Life
Someone said the women are what is left behind when men go to war. If this is so, Army Wives is a great examples of the homefront.

I watched the whole first season on demand cable, since my advance copy of the DVD was not available yet. I was amazed with the depth of the storytelling of this series. These 13 episodes were not soap opera-ish, as I thought they might be. What annoys me is such shows like the Unit which touches the same subject matter and I have seen weaken by the way they tell the story in their show. You wont find that here, the show is told with a female point of view. However The storylines seem real as if the screenwriters have written and lived it!

The cast lead by Catherine Bell and Kim Delaney makes this cast cook in a way I have not seen a cast mesh together this well in a long time.

This is good television. I only wish it was more than 13 episodes. But in these 13 episodes is a class act.

I cant wait until June for...

Far better than I would have expected!
I am a conservative, pro military and a former US Navy sailor. When my wife first introduced me to Army Wives, I was immediately suspicious. My experience with Lifetime network is that most shows have a liberal theme, man bash or other aspect that I don't care for. Army Wives was a VERY pleasant surprise. The show deals, in my opinion, very realisticly with military life. There is no political theme to this. It is not out to bash the military or even any politicians.
As a conservative and veteran, I would recommend this show to any and all to watch whether you are liberal, conservative, middle of the road, etc. The show is not a political statement, it is a well done drama that deserves the positive attention it is getting.

Army Wives is the best show!!!
Army Wives was named one of the top 10 shows of 2007 for a reason. The show is extremely well written and has an awesome ensemble cast!! For those who are JAG fans (like myself) you will get to see Catherine Bell (Mac of JAG). CB and everyone on the show do a beautiful job of depicting life for military spouses. It does have alot of drama but it also has very humorous parts as well. The season 1 cliffhanger will have you shaking your heads and therefore make you long for season 2 to start!!! The Season 1 DVD has alot of extras, such as behind the scenes and outakes. AW is well worth buying!!! You will not be disappointed!!!

Sophia Loren 4-Film Collection (Neapolitan Carousel / Attila / Madame Sans-Gene / Sunflower)

Attractive set for a legendary film star-Sophia Loren
The four films included in this attractively packaged set are rare indeed, so for this Sophia fan to finally own them, is a wonderful privilege. The film transfers to DVD are bright and clean, and I was impressed given the age of some of these foreign films. On that note,
The films are presented in their original language with English subtitles. For Sophia "aficionados", this set is a Godsend, given it gives us glimpses of Sophia's early beginnings as an actress in "Attila" and "Carosello Napoletano" (1954) (Italy), and then on to her middle period with the hilarious film- "Madam Sans-Gene" (1962) (France), with Sophia already displaying her huge comedic talents and SOPHIsticated acting technique. Then on to what may be the first film of her late period- "I Girasoli" ("Sunflower") (Italian) (1970), a classic pairing with Marcello Mastroianni and her best Director, Vittorio De Sica. This latter film shows Sophia at her best, it has intense dramatic moments and charming comedic...

About the DVDs (Widescreen & Full Screen)
All the other reviews seemed to have covered the bases with regard to the films, so I just wanted to add some technical details. First of all, beware: the package is not entirely accurate. It says you get Carosello Napoletano "16x9 Widescreen", Attila "4x3 Full", Madame Sans-G

Blood+: Volume Two

Be warned
The show is great but the packaging is very deceptive. Both Blood+ Vol. 2 and Vol. 3 are disks 2 and 3 of the Blood+ Vol 1 collection. If you already have the 5 disk Blood+ Vol. 1 collection then you have these. There evidently are another 25 shows somewhere but these 2 disks aren't them, not sure where they are.

So don't get duped like I did and spend almost $50 buying Vol Two and Three only to find out you already own them. I am unhappy with Amazon for not including an episode list with this item to prevent this from happening. So I will post this, write the $50 off as experience that you can get ripped off at Amazon like you can any other web retailer.

The Father is founds, but the answers are not...
The American military, vampires and war. When it seems like everything might be linking up, sticking together, giving Red Shield the answers they want more questions pop up. Wine, a girl's school and blue roses have now been added to the mix. What do THEY have to do with the Chiropterans?
The DVD holds five episodes which is good because there are no extras. But these episodes are great, full of action, mystery and character development. The story may seem slow, but that's because it is slowly being woven, each string of theme, plot and drama being spliced together to give us the bigger picture. Even if it is only a thread a episode. A must.

Secrets and vengeance
Monstrous vampires, blood, war, phantoms and revenge. The next round of "Blood+" takes this story into even darker territory.

In fact, the episodes on "Blood+: Volume 2" are where the story really takes off, wrenching Saya's family away from their comfortable lives, and into the middle of a dangerous conflict. There's tragedy, family togetherness, a little humor, and buckets of gore -- as well as the first glimpses of the series' antagonists.

David, Haji and Saya infiltrate a nature preserve with a secret underground facility -- and not only do they find a longtime military conspiracy, but loads of Chriopterans. Meanwhile, Julia finds out that the US military is planning to bomb the preserve -- because of the presence of chiropterans. Even worse, there's no way to alert the people inside the preserve.

Unfortunately, George has problems behind that -- he's been injected with something called Delta-67, a mysterious substance that the US military is using...

Curse of the Devil

A TRUE MASTER OF MACABRE CINEMA
I've always enjoyed Pual Naschy's work. He's especially good as a werewolf and has been playing that character since 1968 in close to a dozen films. I was eager to see this movie and then I read the reviews on here. One person said this movie had "mindless nudity, sex, cheesy werewolf make up etc." and then I was REALLY eager to see it! I got my grubby little hands on it and popped it in the DVD player and settled back and hit play and WOW! This is a fun movie and a great DVD! The picture quality is superb and there are tons of great extras. The promised "mindless nudity, sex, cheesy werewolf make up etc." are indeed all there too! Naschy gives another wonderful performance and the picture quality of this DVD is far superior to all the poor prints we've been forced to endure in the past. Naschy has established himself as a master of macabre cinema and the high quality presentation of this DVD is a great tribute to the man and a true treat for his fans.

With these kinds of films, you take what you can get.
Once you get past the obvious setbacks of the film: an unconvincing lead, very bad make-up, horribly choreographed violence, and a pretty [weak]ending--there is some enjoyment to be had from Curse of the Devil. To begin with, the story is actually pretty involving and the plot has some tricky forks in it at times. The idea is very good: an arrogant hero pays for that arrogance through a satanic curse, which seemingly is unbeatable. Unfortunately, you have to make the mother of all suspensions of belief to deal with the actual werewolf. Naschy just wasn't suited (bad pun!) for the job. When you do have close-ups of the creature, there just isn't any menace conveyed-merely a frozen make-up expression. When he attacks, it is almost comedic as, for most of the film, he quickly runs on screen and then off before the viewer has a chance to even register what has happened. The opening sequence, if you're able to not laugh at what must be one of the lamest swordfight scenes ever...

classic werewolf films for you
the werewolf series of films that paul naschy did form 1968-2003
is alot of fun and there are 12 of them. this is one of the better ones and it's a mexican and spahish produced film with the lead female parts done by mexican actresses. And that's a good thing. The acting is fine but the transfer is choppy on this bci version. It's like there are frames missing from the print. I also have the werewolf shadow dvd from this company and it's not choppy or at least not so noticable. I don't know what happened by it is a defect that bci should do something about. I hope that someone gets out the rest of the series as well because this is vintage werewolf mania that is directly related in makeup style to the classic wolfman movies from universal. I think Naschy did a great job this time around with his tormented lead character that only a woman who loves him can save him from the curse. The title refers to the curse that is put upon his family line and not that the werewolf is a...

Californication - The First Season

One of the funniest shows on television
It took me a few episodes to warm up to "Californication." At first I wasn't quite sure what the show was trying to be...maybe "Sex and the City" for men? But it's actually much more than that. The show revolves around Hank Moody (David Duchovny), an author who's been in a bit of a writer's slump ever since his last novel was published seven years ago. Hank longs to return to his hometown of New York City, but remains in California because his former lover, Karen (Natascha McElhone), lives there, along with their teenage daughter, Becca (Madeleine Martin). Hank is still very much in love with Karen, and it's pretty obvious that she still loves him, too. Unfortunately, Karen's engaged to stuffy Bill (Damian Young), and Hank unwittingly has sex with Bill's 16-year-old daughter, Mia (Madeline Zima), who eventually ends up blackmailing Hank and trying to take credit for his latest manuscript. What a mess!

"Californication" also boasts a strong supporting cast. Evan Handler...

Finally, an adult comedy with brains
Not since MILLENNIUM and HOUSE, MD has a new television series caught my attention and held on each and every week. This show is smart, sassy, sexy, serious, funny, sometimes sad, and above all REALISTIC! The characters work perfectly off one another. I never watched David Duchovny in X-Files so I wasn't sure what to expect. He is TOP NOTCH fantastic in this show. He has the character of Hank Moody down to a "T" from voice inflections, sarcasm and facial expression, you always know where his character is coming from. The entire show orbits Hank's daily life. Begin with his love and affection for his ex, Karen, and their young pre-teen daughter, Becca, and end with his utter loathing of the literary world of which he is a part, and you will find a man who is struggling daily to look himself in the mirror and try liking what he sees. He drinks too much, parties too hard, and has sex with women whose names he doesn't even care to know. We all have known people like Hank, therefore, he is...

Warning: Comedy, Sex, drugs, bad language OH MY!!!
Californication is a wild, funny, and an enteraining show about Hank Moody a washed-up writer from NY who moved to LA to make it big. It didn't work out that well and as a result he cannot write!

Hank drinks and womanizes while trying to win back his ex while raising his 12-year-old daughter. He is also being blackmailed from the ex's boyfriend's daughter.

WARNING: There is a lot of fornication is almost every episode and a lot of swearing that probably isn't necessary. You can make a great show without showing every sex scene and saying the F word in every other sentence in which it gets annoying after a while but don't let that stop you from checking out this show.

To Duchovny fans you will see the softer side in Hank's character as he has shown in The X-files and Return to Me in which makes him attractive.

The relationship with his daughter and his ex that is sweet. There is a connection there that no one can describe unless you have had...

7th Heaven: The Sixth Season

The Camdens are back and ready for more drama in Season 6!
With the release of this 6th season quickly approaching, that means that more than half of the series is already out, so being able to collect Seasons 1-11 seems more attainable than ever! Sadly, it appears that the poorly edited episodes and all-too-typical music changes probably won't be addressed, but if you're a big "7th Heaven" fan, you can't deny that it's better than not having them on DVD at all.

Like many others, I grew up with this show. I was a fifth grader when it all began, and by the time its last episode aired, I was almost done with college. I think this show will always hold up as one that was brave enough to deal with contemporary issues in a tasteful way, all while portraying a loving American family that managed to stick together, even though they were far from perfect. With each passing year, the social issues presented got deeper without steering away from their classic "family friendly" ways. I have to admit that Seasons 1-5 were probably the best,...

Nice Clean Cut Family TV....
Loved 7th Heaven since the very beginning in 1996. I have to admit I was quite sad to see the show come to a definite end in 2007. I grew up with this show. What I love about it is that it's totally shameless family tv. Not the find of thing that you have to worry about your kids watching. There needs to be more shows like this. 7th Heaven always send out good signals to teenagers about making the right shoices in life. They would bring up true to life issues & watch the characters resolve these issues. There is loss, romance, happiness, success. It's just an incredible show & you have to watch the characters evolve from the beginning to the end to truly appreciate the show as I do. This is one show that will definitely be missed. Can't wait for the next season to come out. Hope we don't have a long wait again!

I
loved this show when it was on regularly and I ienjoy watching it again whenever I want. I am an adult now but grew up in a family of eight four girls 4 boys. MY dad was Lou. both my parents were PK's. So I know what that is like. MY grandfather always knew when we were up to something. Growing up we believe he could see through walls and see around corners. I Miss his show I WONDER HOW THE ADULT CHILDREN WOULD BE HANDLING their familes

Soap: The Complete Series (Slim Packaging)

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THE DVD
SOAP is truly one of the best comedies of all time! Great actors (well acted as well), Great comedic timing, and great plot twists. So before I go any further, the show itself is a 5++ star rating. This review is not about the show, but how the DVD set that is NOT COMPLETE and how the Studio who produce this (Sony/Columbia Tristar) have shown an injustice to a great T.V. Show.
As mentioned by a reviewer before me....the packaging is the worst of it's kind. I already have the seasons sets (which the packaging is 100 times better), but I wanted to check the new complete series (online reviews and at Best Buy) to see if there is anything new/extra and or different than the season sets. The packaging is VERY FLIMSY. And it is as described by the prior reviewer in a spiral format (like you buy blank DVD's or CDs). Even tvshowsondvd.com gave it the worst packaging ever (see the following link for details on how bad the packaging is: [...] )
In addition to the bad packaging,...

Great price. Lousy packaging.
This is a great price for one of the best comedic shows of the seventies. It includes all four seasons and ends with the unresolved cliffhanger at the end of season four. For this alone I would give the set four or five stars but the packaging is so infantile and atrocious that I actually recommend NOT buying this set and waiting for the individual seasons to drop in price or go on sale. The packaging is a cardboard slipcase that contains what basically amounts to a molded plastic spindle (like you would buy a pack of 50 blanks) that fits in the cardboard box. The discs are all stacked on top of each other! There's no episode guide. Nothing. This is as about as far as you can take "No Frills" without just putting the discs in paper sleeves. I'm actually going to purchase blank DVD cases and scan the cover to make my own cases. Get the series for this great price but only if you dare.

LOVE THE SHOW - HATE THE PACKAGING!!!!
Agreeing with the other reviews, I contacted Sony Home Entertainment regarding the terrible packaging and here's their reply:

Thank you for your email. We appreciate your questions, comments, and feedback of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) products.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Company Policy does not include replacement of the items you requested.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your continued patronage and taking the time to contact us.

Regards,

SPHE Consumer Affairs Team

Obviously, Sony doesn't care (as of yet) and wants my DVD collection to get as scratched as possible (so I eventually replace it).

Buy the individual seasons. I'm sorry I sold mine...

Flyabout: Some Things You Can Only See From Above

A Gritty, real tale about daughterly love
It would be a mistake to regard Monika Petrillo's quirky and genuine "Flyabout" as merely a great flying yarn and scenic travelogue about Australia--though her film is eminently both of those things. On its deeper level "Flyabout" is the tale of a grown daughter reckoning with her father, accepting the disappointments of life and relationships and then bravely flying on regardless. You'll love the way "Flyabout" tells your family story too. The in-air cockpit footage is great, especially when Monika encounters her first rain storms and difficult crosswind landings and her father has to trust her to be a better pilot than him. I also especially enjoyed the gritty and uncut gem quality of the filming--this is Monika's video blog of a remarkable aerial journey across Australia. This, plus Monika's heartfelt but unpretentious narration, is a refreshing break from the slick and overdone docu-videos from too many of today's film-makers. You don't have to be a pilot to love this one...

Inspirational Story for all ages
As a pilot and world traveler myself, I enjoyed this movie and how it intertwined so many different themes into a cohesive yet enjoyable documentary. I have not been to Australia (yet), so I got to live precariously through Monika's travels, and better yet, at altitude. Far from a tedious travelogue, the drama between family members will interest anyone who isn't drawn in because of the amazing panoramas, the beautiful music, the flora and fauna, the narrator's introspection, and of course, the aviation angle.

If I have described the film somewhat cerebrally above, I am happy to add that the movie can be enjoyed by all ages. As the founder of an organization using women in aviation to inspire girls to achieve their full potential (Girls With Wings), I endorse this movie as a way to educate girls on all they can achieve. Flyabout is the perfect "vehicle" for doing so. My 6 year old niece sat curled up next to me on the couch as we watched the entire movie. She was riveted,...

Quite a journey indeed!
I loved this movie! It's a great combination of heartfelt personal story and exciting adventure. The filmmaker/narrator takes a trip flying a small airplane around the continent of Australia with her father. The trip has its ups and downs--both in the flying department, and the intergenerational one. The footage of Australia and its sights is amazing, and the story is told very, very well. There is upbeat music, fast-paced editing, and some very personal observations by the woman herself. People who love small-plane aviation will find this movie irresistible. And so will anyone with a dad!

What makes the film a real success is how well it weaves together a good narrative (windy landings, mechanical delays, wildlife encounters) with the theme of being on a "walkabout" and trying to listen to one's own inner voice. When the trip was over, I felt like I could really see inside the filmmaker's head--and that is what I call truly personal storytelling! I've recommended...

The Boondocks: The Complete Second Season

Aaron McGruder is a genius! Funny as hell!

One of the best...
This is easily one of the smartest and funniest shows on television... animated or otherwise! It's a shame that Sony has yet to greenlight season 3 (possibly due to the fact that the two episodes that were banned from airing stateside appear on this set and Sony might be taking a wait and see attitude to see what BET will do in response since it was BET's threat to sue that got the episodes banned in the first place). If you are easily offended by any sort of vulgar language or racial humor and satire, this show is NOT for you! However, if you enjoy great animation coupled with intelligent writing, non-stop laughs and great underlying messages, BUY THIS SET NOW AND DEMAND SONY GREENLIGHT SEASON 3!!!

As for BET... if BET execs are so concerned with how they're portrayed in these episodes, perhaps they should consider improving the quality of their programs rather than broadcasting... whatever it is they continue to pass off as entertainment. Sorry... I'll get off my...

It's Uncensored and Uncut.
I found info that this dvd will be uncensored and uncut just like the first season. And not only that, but it's the complete second season, all 15 episodes including the 2 that never aired in the US. So no censorship. It will also contain 4 featurettes, 2 'minisodes', and audio commentaries on selected episodes picked by Aaron McGruder. Enjoy.

Icons of Adventure Collection (The Pirates of Blood River / The Devil-Ship Pirates / The Stranglers of Bombay / The Terror of the Tongs)

NICE RELEASE OF EXCEEDINGLY RARE HAMMERS
Hammer Studios is known for its particular brand of horror films, but in the early sixties they also ventured into the realm of adventure. Four of those titles are included here. PIRATES OF BLOOD RIVER is a swashbuckling potboiler, with Christopher Lee as a one-eyed pirate, and Sinbad's Kerwin Matthews as the persecuted hero who saves the town that rejected him from treasure seeking mauraders.

DEVIL-SHIPS PIRATES has a clever premise, a Spanish privateer that sailed with the Armada runs ashore near a small and remote British town and terrorizes the populace, tricking the hapless villagers into believing (at least for a while) that the Armada defeated the British navy and the rest of England is now occupied by the victorious Spaniards. This clever IT HAPPENED HERE touch from screenwriter Jimmy Sangster makes DEVIL-SHIP special, as does Christopher Lee's performance as the absolute nastiest villian he's ever played in his long and distinguished career.

Two dark...

Hammer films long awaited titles released on DVD!
Any fan of Hammer films and/or Christopher Lee cannot wait to snatch up this rare item. Be aware casual Hammer Film fans these are not Horror films but action/adventure. Many familiar Hammer actors and directors. So if you are a completist of the Golden Age of Hammer like myself, snatch up this DVD collection.

Glad to see "The Stranglers" on DVD finally!
I wanted to specifically point out my enthisiasm for "The Stranglers of Bombay". I've been trying to acquire this great 1960 Hammer film for a long time and, finally, it's now available!

This movie is shot in black-and-white and runs for 80 minutes. As I mentioned, this is a Hammer Studios film. It was directed by Terrence Fisher and conveys a sort of story about the Thuggees of India, a murderous religious cult.

Guy Rolfe plays Captain Harry Lewis, a seasoned British officer who trys to persuade the East India Company to investigate a situation where people have disappeared -- he is ignored. Lewis is replaced by an incompetent for all his troubles so he investigates the matter on his own. George Pastell plays the role of the High Priest of Kali.

The big picture is that this is yet another story of British mis-management of one of its colonies, in this case, India.

This is a very rare film and, for this movie alone, this movie set is worth...

Yoga for Mom and Baby: A Postnatal Yoga Workout with Your Baby

Just what I've been looking for!!!
I LOVE this DVD. I have looked and looked for a practice that I could do with my baby. I had the hardest time trying to find time to exercise or do yoga after the baby came, and I looked everywhere. I tried videos, I tried books, and I didn't find much that worked for me. The baby always needed me before I could get 10 minutes into it!

But THIS is different! I love it! Your baby is in every single pose. Ann figured out creative ways to keep your baby in your arms or close to your face in almost all of the poses. I love it. My baby loves it! Half the time she falls asleep while we do it!

Ann offers helpful comments for those who had c-sections, also. I liked that a lot.

I also LOVE the two soundtrack options. You can pick calm piano music or more upbeat new-agey music. It helps keep things new. I really like it.

I highly recommend this DVD to all new moms!!

Just what I was looking for
I spent a lot of time researching Mommy/Baby yoga DVDs. This one seemed to be the only one that really included baby. I was nervous because there weren't too many reviews, but I didn't need to be. It is a moderate yoga workout (as with any yoga session, you take it as far as you can go) but most importantly, baby is included in every single position. She encourages you to talk to baby at points, to tickle her, and an overall interaction throughout. I love this DVD. It makes it possible for me to workout and not have to wait for baby to be napping! Give it a try, it really is worth it if you want a post-natal yoga practice that fully integrates baby.

Great gift for your wife!
Our 4th beautiful daughter was born 6 months ago, and my wife wanted to get 'back into shape' after the pregnancy. She was thinking about Yoga, and so I got her this DVD, just thinking that it'd be great if she could work out with our relatively newborn baby girl.

I must say, that both she and I have been amazed at how doing this 'Yoga for Mom and Baby' has really helped her get her pre-pregnancy body back! She's been more full of energy, and hasn't had to put our daughter down to cry, just so she can work out!

As a caring husband I really have been so happy to watch my wife see herself in the mirror and have the confidence in herself and her body that she had years ago -- if not more confidence! This Yoga practice has really been one of the best purchases we've ever made because of the personal strength, inner peace, and great body that she's gained from it!

I highly recommend this for any mother (or husband wanting to get a nice gift for his...

What's Happening: The Complete Series (Slim Packaging)

love it
I really enjoyed watching this show as a child when it was in syndication years ago. I am so glad I have TV shows like this on DVD to watch whenever I want to, instead of the mindless, irritating reality shows of today. Excellent quality transfer, very entertaining, highly recommended. Just buy a CD book to put the DVD's in because they will get damaged the way they are packaged with all the discs stacked directly on top of each other.

Hey, hey, hey . . . the entire series is now here!
If you are into late 70's comedy at a civilized price, you're looking at a series you'll want to consider. This series contains all 65 episodes in one compact box. Trying to buy this type of series by the season can be intensely frustrating and costly, especially if you add in the postage for even a few seasons. This is one of the comedy series that wasn't long lasting, but lingers in the minds of those who used to run to the television set to watch it after school. Instead of catching it here and there on reruns, it's now in one space saving box.

This show is a surefire nostalgia tweak when I remember Raj, Rerun and Dwayne and their mischief-making ways. Of course there was little sister Dee, the ultimate tattletale, who always spilled the beans and the loveable Shirley, the waitress at Rob's Place, who brings a smile to my face just thinking about her . . . "What's happening?" If there is anything happening Mama Mabel is surely the one who's going to have the...

Great Price!
Great for the price! However the box it came in was not usual DVD box. flat cardboard cut outs to seperate each indivdual DVD, not a sturdy and secure way to store so many dvds in same small container.

Fantastic Four - World's Greatest Heroes - The Complete First Season

Somewhat revamped yet still old-school at heart - catch this show
If you're a longtime fan of the Fantastic Four, it's hard not to be judgmental when you first catch a peep of this show. But if you can get past the retooled character and costume designs (for the FF and their villains), and Reed's unruly mop of hair and Johnny's anime-influenced spiky do, and that spray-painted "4" on Ben's chest - then you might get that this is a pretty good animated series. Or was, anyway, since it's been canned already.

FANTASTIC FOUR: WORLD'S GREATEST HEROES debuted in September 2006 on the Cartoon Network. For the curious ones, this happens to be the fourth television incarnation of Marvel's first superhero family, succeeding the 1967, 1978 (with H.E.R.B.I.E. taking over for the Torch), and the 1994 versions. It's the hippest and funniest TV adaptation yet.

The series captures the essence of these characters. I've always liked Reed Richards, but he's never been the ideal leading man. Here, he seems to be younger but as typically bland and...

The FF: revamped
Let's get one thing straight, this is not a FF series for old-school Marvel fanboys; the kind who complain that an adaptation is cheesy if it is 100% faithful to the original material but go ballistic if they change anything from the comic. I know you know who I'm talking about. This series is a fresh reinvention of the superheroes we know and love and personally I enjoyed it. A lot.

The animation is certainly above average for a cartoon; it's not exactly Pixar, but it's far superior to the more traditional Fantastic Four - The Complete Animated Series with it's horrible theme song. The look is a uniquely modern mix of eastern and western styles with some nice CG, all of which may be off-putting to those who just want an animated version of a forty year-old comic book (that's already been done...twice) but it works nonetheless. The series' best attribute by far is it's sharp sense of humor. For example,...

I love this show
Updatem 6/6/08, I've seen the first season box set at work as YES it is widescreen. Can't wait til 6/10/08 to pick it up

I have the first 3 volumes, which I think makes up the first season. UNfortunately the first 3 volumes are in fullscreen. Everytime I watch an episode, I think, this looks like it was made in widescreen.

I am happy to see that this boxset is in widescreen.

I love the animation, kind of anime, with CGI mixed in. Very fun stories. I am not a purist an I love this version of the F4.

Jumper (Special Edition + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]

Good, fun movie
I went to see Jumper with some of my family when it was released, and I have to say I enjoyed it very much. I've liked Hayden Christensen since I saw "Life as a House," and Samuel L. just rips up a villain role like nobody's business. The special effects were very well done and I was delighted to find that the main storyline they implied in the commercials is NOT what happened! Sure, the main character can teleport, but the rest.... The movie is billed as scifi/thriller type, but that's a bit misleading. This is more like the Highlander films, a fantasy element in the real world.

The movie was pretty fast paced with only a couple slower moments, and the character's self-exploration once he discovers the ability was almost as good as Peter Parker's in the first Spider-Man movie. Actually, in one way it was better. Peter uses his power to win a wrestling match and then jumps right into the hero role. Our similarly-aged jumper, however, jumps right into a bank vault, and a...

Jumper, Worth Watching for Science Fiction Fans, Give it a Try!
Jumper [Theatrical Release]

"Jumper" is a good movie that will appeal to science fiction lovers, comic book junkies and anybody who's ever wanted to travel the world without blowing their bank account. The story is simple, the special effects and international sets are amazing, and the acting is ... well you can't have anything. The young actors here are given very few lines to work with and might not meet the high standards of those who want every movie, including an action fantasy movie, to have award worthy acting.

Many people will have to wonder what I wondered when I first read the reviews here: did I see the same movie as everybody else? Why has this movie been panned by so many people?

Fans of the original novel tend to be against this movie because it deviates from the original story and offers a much more film-friendly short version. Jumper: A Novel (Jumper) There was...

I liked this one
People seem to want Hayden to fail bc/they're not happy with the recent Star Wars movies, but that's not very fair to this movie. The movie, while not Oscar material, is an entertaining flick. The acting is not bad, despite the complaints of other reviewers.

I went to see this one with my girlfriend, and we both enjoyed it. I'm not even a sci-fi nut; I think Blade Runner is boring and pointless. So, I'm not predisposed to like every sci-fi flick that comes out.

The movie revolves around a misfit kid with an abusive father and absent mother who learns he can teleport. It seems that his life will become a dream as a result of his abilities, but he soon finds himself hunted by merciless killers who are set out to destroy all jumpers. The conflict with a buddy makes for interesting plot twists, and the love interest is played by a uniquely intriguing actress.

I did think that the very ending could have been slightly better, but I would certainly go see the...

You Belong to Me

Excellent Thriller
An excellent indy Hitchcock-ian thriller with a shocker ending. Nicely produced and expertly directed. That the main character,Jeffery,(the charming Daniel Sauli) is gay is secondary to the plot. Jeffrey,a NYC architect, becomes infatuated with his sexy one night stand and comes upon him sometime after their encounter while out walking his dog, Max. He follows Ren back to his apartment building and there finds a notice for an empty apartment. Enter the landlady/owner, Gladys, played by the excellent and ever-so-creepy Patti D'Arbanville, she insists upon showing him the apartment, He decides to take it and thus begins the real plot. To say more would spoil the story, suffice to say this is a movie that you'll enjoy a great deal if you are fond of this genre.

Smart and Suspenseful
As in Alfred Hitchcock's films, the suspense in Sam Zalusky's "You Belong to Me" stems from the psychological complexity of the characters. There are no black and white heroes and villains here but complex human beings whose motivations and emotions ring true throughout the film, thanks to both the quality of the screenplay and the quality of the cast, especially the inspired Patti D'Arbanville. The real source of horror in "You Belong to Me" is how in our increasingly alienating society, people's search for connection with each other can go horribly wrong. And in this film, when things do go wrong, we shudder not just with fear but with recognition of our own human foibles.

Great Build-Up, But Ending Very Abrupt
This was definitely a refreshing film. It has an interesting plot, and I like the interaction between the lead character and his best friend.

Shortly into the movie, the protagonist takes an apartment in a building so that he can be near a guy he desires. Unfortunately, the love is unrequited. After he moves into the building, things turn dramatically worse for him. Saying more, would give away the plot.

This part of the story is very suspenseful. The viewer is kept intrigued waiting to discover the motive of the people who are threatening the protagonist and to see how the conflict is resolved. So, after all of that wonderful build-up, the reason for the conflict and the resolution left me wanting more.

I totally "get" the reason for the conflict, but the actors involved did not portray "insanity" effectively to make that explanation credible. They were just too campy. Also, the resolution -- "I'm here" -- was way too short. It did not give this...

GaoGaiGar: King of Braves (Premium Box Collection, Vols. 1-5, Eps. 1-25)

GaoGaiGar: An anime classic
GaoGaiGar is an incredible series. If you love GAR and manly punching and shouting and fighting, this is the series for you. Wonderful price, too. This is an incredible value. The series takes a little while to build up, but once it gets going, it'll have you marathonning them.

Good Series
I have been a big fan of Japanese animation for a long time, but this was always one of my favorites. I'm glad I got a chance to get the series before it was gone. I have missed a few in the past thinking "ill wait for it to go down in price" Bad idea. My advice, if you like it, buy it before it gets away.
The voice acting is good in this series, the only thing I wish they did was subtitle the names of locations when they are splashed on the screen, other than that it was great.
And one last thing

FINAL FUSION Complete!!!!!!

It's fantastic
What's there to say? It's a great show and a great example of the giant-robot vrs aliens genre.

Excellent soundtrack as well.

the performance is tight. these guys really know how to put on a show.

this dvd is for all fans of metal, not just the hardcore gforbid fans.

the 2nd dvd is great documentary of the band. it's a great resource and it is also hilarious.

Just my opinion....
The DVD is worth it if you are a big god forbid fan. however its still not pantera's 3 DVD, nor is it Chimaira's dehumanization process. i LOVE the band so i really dig the DVD, but i could see how it might not be as entertaining to some. id rate 3.5 out of 5 stars.

City Slickers (Collector's Edition)

Likeable from start to finish!
Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby, Daniel Stern, and Jack Palance shine in this very funny movie about 3 "City Slickers" who are disillusioned with their lives and decide to participate in a cattle drive from New Mexico to Colorado in order to "find themselves." There aren't many comedies which are relevant to real life, and "City Slickers" is one of them. There aren't many comedies which emphasise the importance of life, love, friendship, humour, and acceptance but again, "City Slickers" is one of them. This is one of those rare diamonds of a film which will make us laugh, make us think, and make us take stock of our own lives. You would be extraordinarily hard to please if you didn't find this movie enjoyable.

Details of new Collector's Edition due out on June 3rd, 2008
This new release of City Slickers will have a bunch of new special features:

-- audio commentary from director Ron Underwood and stars Billy Crystal and Daniel Stern (Bruno Kirby and Jack Palance are no longer living)

-- 4 featurettes
. . . "Back in the Saddle: City Slickers Revisited"
. . . "Bringing in the Script: Writing City Slickers"
. . . "A Star is Born: An Ode to Norman" (Norman being the calf Mitch adopts)
. . . "The Real City Slickers"

-- 2 deleted scenes: "Releasing the Herd" and "A New Job"

City Slickers, like most of the comedies I like best, works both as a vehicle for some pretty good humor and as a drama with heart, with something real at stake. Mitch (Billy Crystal) and his two best friends (Daniel Stern and Bruno Kirby) are each having midlife crises in their own ways. In an effort to find themselves they join a two-week dude cattle drive adventure where they do indeed surpass their former boundaries...

Drop dead funny
These three guys - well, these three city slickers - decide that a 2-week cattle drive is just what each needs to come to terms with their own individual crises - and they get the boss-man from hell, Jack Palance (who won an Oscar for this role). Slapstick in the beginning, it becomes more serious in the middle, then a sentimental wind-down toward a bittersweet ending.
Excellent!

Sabrina, the Teenage Witch - The Fourth Season

Not the best, but still Sabs.
So season Four is probably my least favorite season but it's still Sabrina so it's amazing compared to half the stuff they call entertainment.

Reasons Why This Season Let Me Down:
-Dreama
-Brad the witch Hunter
-No Libby
-No Valerie
-Josh

Reasons Why This Season Didn't Suck:
-Sabrina's antics
-The aunts branching off in new directions
-Harvey
-And of course the reason the show is completely worth every dime:
SALEM SABERHAGEN!

My Daughter Loves This
I have a seventeen year old who LOVES Sabrina, she got the first two seasons during the holiday and watched them both within a week. I had pre-ordered the 3rd season and when we got it, she opened it and watched it right away. I have already pre-ordered the 4th season.

I don't know about everyone out there, but I would rather have her watching Sabrina than Gossip Girl, or the other teen show on NIK that I cant think of right now. She has her whole life to meet someone and fall in love, why expose herself to the pressures that those teens face.

If I had a tween who is interested in television, I would reccomend Sabrina to any parent. She is pretty wholesome and each show deals with issues we have all faced at one time or another. Its good wholesome entertainment for your daughter

SABRINA ROCKS!
I am THIRTY years old, so I sorta "grew up" with Sabrina and I can tell you, I have probably seen each episode about a 100 times and they never get old! EVER! Melissa Joan Hart is just about the cutest and funniest chick around and I love every other character on the show as well! I own the first three seasons too and I just pre-ordered season four and I can't wait to get it! I swear, i'll be watchin' this show even when i'm 90! (Even if it does drive my husband crazy ha ha,..but really, he watches it with me sometimes, and I think he kinda likes it too but he'd just NEVER admit it! Ha ha!)

Btw, I totally agree with the person who said, the fourth season is when it started to be: "not as great" cuz there was no Libby, no Valerie (OR Jenny,) and I was NEVER a big fan of Josh either, he was just ANNOYING, but Salem is still awesome, and so are the rest of em' (especially Harvey,) and Sabrina of course,...goes without saying!

So I strongly recommend anyone who...

WONDERFULL
THIS IS A VERY GOOD DVD, PIECED TOGETHER WELL, AND IS VERY GOOD TO LISTEN TOO, I LIKE IT AS WELL AS MY SON. I

Hoo, Ha!
I'm glad I got this. Some of these artists I had never seen before, but they are all good.

Unfortunately, real country music has seemed to have all but disappeared, and so if you want to see what passes for genuine country singing, as close to the original style of country music as we're ever likely to see, especially from the newer acts, we'd better latch on to as much of the old-type stuff as possible.

It's wonderful to have available so many of the old country singers on CD, but it would be fantastic to be able to see them on DVD, and not in the old black-and-white stuff that we sometimes see, but as modern and slick, as far as the production, as the newer DVDs are.

Of course, that's not going to happen, because those old stars passed away without making any films, or precious few, and we just have to settle for their CDs.

The Restless

See it without high expectations and you will like this movie.
The plot of the film is not really a strong one (nor original for that matter) but a good one never the less. There will be times where you are left scratching your head hoping for an explanation for certain things but they are not harmful or have a great impact to the plot so it is forgivable. But what truly saved the film more for me and for some people who agree with me is the graphics and the landscape of Midheaven. And the action sequences even though there are not many, they don't disappoint. The biggest scene stealer would have to be the protagonist vs. 5,000 to 10,000 demon soldiers. The acting is a bit stiff and the female star of the film (Kim Tae-Hee) really needs to learn how to have more than just two facial expresions (wich are only just a surprised expresion or a sad expresion). She has shown promise but she has long way to go. This film is more for the WUXIA fan freaks including myself and in no way should it be compared to Crouching tiger (overhyped film) or Hero. It...

Bedazzled (1967) / Bedazzled (2000) (Double Take)

Bedeviled
This is a review for the "Bedazzled" Double-take DVD set containing the 1967 and the 2000 version. I think for story and a little "deeper" meaning, the 1967 version is better than the 2000. In the opening, Dudley Moore is in church (imagine that) praying, well sort of and the Devil, he calls himself George, hears his thoughts, especially the part of "giving anything" to make his dreams come true. He is a cook who is deeply in love with a co-worker but never has the courage to ask her for a date. So George (Peter Cook) offers him a deal and with a "JULIE ANDREWS!" Dudley Moore goes from one bad wish to another. I never got the impression that Dudley Moore's character grew; he never outsmarted the devil. It turns out that God and Satan have a bet, to see who can get to 100,000 souls first. The film deals more with the sins and George's desire to get back into heaven. Which adds a depth that the 2000 version doesn't have. Also, despite her prominent image on the cover, Rachel Welch plays...

This is not about Brendan.
All of the reviews i have read so far ignore the fact that this double set is about AN ORIGINAL and ITS REMAKE. I saw the original when it came out and it stuck to my mind as one of the most anti-clerical, no target-barred (including Hollywood) movies ever to come out of Britain. Dudley Moore and Peter Cook are a perfect comedy team, and their chemistry is unbelievable. Compare with Hollywood's version: a female bimbo in red as the Devil, and hapless Brendan Frazer, who happens to be a fine comedy actor, stuck in a movie totally devoid of ideological satire. I love both versions, the British as a thinking man's movie( 5 stars) and Hollywood's as mindless fast food fare (3 stars, and only for Brendan)

High Noon (Two-Disc Ultimate Collector's Edition)

New High Noon 2-disc Ultimate Collector's Edition due out June 10th, 2008!
Lionsgate has announced a new DVD release of High Noon with new special features. There is what appears to be a reliable report, though unconfirmed, that it will include a new transfer of the film, restored by Paramount. The current and older DVDs are only of average video and audio quality.

This a true classic, combining traditional Western themes with contemporary concerns about popular acquiescence to evil, done in a gripping, unusual (nearly real-time) way, with great actors.

Town marshal Will Kane (Gary Cooper) is caught between his new pacifist Quaker wife Amy (Grace Kelly) and a felt duty to face down evil men coming on the noon train to take revenge on him (and presumably cause whatever other trouble they please). Most of the drama takes place in the lead-up to a climactic battle, as the townspeople choose whether to support Kane with action or to let him stand alone. Amy too must choose between her spouse and her own moral beliefs. The tension...

Masterful filmmaking
"High Noon" is frequently mentioned among the best Westerns and even among the best films ever made. It is rated #33 by the American Film Institute on their top 100 of the 20th century. It was nominated for seven Academy Awards and won four, including best actor for Gary Cooper, best song and best editing. But, was it really that good? After all, it was a bare bones black and white Western in an age of Technicolor spectaculars.

It was that good and more. "High Noon" was not really a Western as the genre had been defined to that point. It was more of a character study of the human condition. It just happened to be set in the American West. Westerns at that time were action films with white hats and black hats. There were fistfights and gunfights throughout the entire film. They clearly differentiated good guys, on the side of justice and righteousness, from bad guys who spurned laws and sneered at those who obeyed them. The heroes were always noble and fearless, typified...

Cooper Against The Clock
High Noon is a classic tale of a man who is torn between his duty and love. Gary Cooper stars as Will Cain, a sheriff of small town Hadleyville, NM, who has just gotten married to Amy played by Grace Kelly. Amy is a Quaker and in deference to her pacifist beliefs, Will is turning in his badge. But just as the newlyweds are preparing to leave town for a new life, Will learns that a criminal, Frank Miller, he put behind bars is being paroled and arriving in town on the 12 noon train for a showdown. Tension fills the air as the anticipated showdown draws closer. Amy begs for Will to leave with her, but he knows he can't run away. He must stay and defend the town and his honor. Will finds himself alone in the battle as everyone in town, including his deputy sheriff Harvey Pell, played by Lloyd Bridges, have turned away from him. The film is just a little over 80 minutes long and it unfolds in essentially real time on the screen. Director Fred Zinnemann effectively uses clocks to...

This movie is fun and enjoyable and sure it's corny and silly in some parts, but you can't take it too seriously. The cast is great (Nicole Ari Parker, James Earl Jones, Cedric the Entertainer, Joy Bryant etc) and the story fun.
Roscoe has moved across the country to get away from his family and is a talk show host out in LA. He goes back home to visit when it's his parents' 50th anniversary. It's there that we see exactly how zany his family really are and why he left in the first place. It's hilarious and yet we do also see him accept his family as they are too.
It's not Oscar material for sure, but it's a great movie for light entertainment with a terrific cast that will surely make you laugh. It's enjoyable and I really liked this one.

I LOVE IT!!!
I think this movie is fantastic. I laughed the whole way through. I can't believe that it got even 1 bad review. Oh well, can't please everyone, right?

Funny, but flawed
When Roscoe is forced to go home for his parent's 50th anniversary he finds his family still treats him like the goofball he once was. Even with his trophy girlfriend, he gets no respect, least of all from his brothers and sisters and cousin.

I found this film amusing. I particularly liked Mo'Nique as his sister, and the scenes of his relatives on his television show in the credits. There were some cliche elements I could've done without such as the country mouse cliche (Roscoe became a big star, becomes egotistical materialistic etc.) Also the glories of finding true love with your high school sweetheart. *Yawns* These tropes are done to death in films.

There is a little grossness, mostly in the forms of fake and kind of silly dog fornication. (Between his girlfriend's pomeranian and a golden retriever), and suggestive themes. Not for small kids, but teens have probably seen worse.

Jericho - The Second Season

Thrilling, fast-paced drama
"Jericho" is unlike any series I've ever watched. I love the balance of action and suspense with realistic, multi-dimensional characters and complex relationships. Season 2 has given us a fast-paced story, but not without the flavor that we came to love in Season 1. Each episode in this serialized drama is well-written and brought to life by a talented cast and crew. "Jericho" is a show that my husband, my son, and I all enjoy--and there aren't too many series that we all like! Can't wait for the DVD.

Nothing else like it on TV
There are only two network television shows that are must-see for me: LOST and JERICHO. Jericho's Season 2 is outstanding -- gripping, suspenseful. The Allied States of America (the new government tightening its control west of the Mississippi) won applause by putting the power and cell phones back on but Jericho's residents soon discover that the government and its henchmen defense contractor -- Ravenwood -- are as brutal as they are efficient. In the spirit of America's Revolutionaries of the 1770s and the French Resistance of World War II, Jericho's Rangers take it upon themselves to fight the new tyranny, expose the terrorists and try to keep Texas from aligning with the ASA. Each episode is dense, dramatic and advances the story. Watch Season 1 first and then settle in for a rollercoaster ride with Season 2.

JERICHO IS A MUST SEE
Jericho is a well written, thought provoking production that takes place during our own time, not a futuristic work of fiction. The characters are true to life, well portrayed by the actors and the action keeps you on the edge of your seat and coming back week after week. It's like a good novel you can't put down until you reach the end. Hopefully, we will be able to save it and this month won't be the end. Spread the word once you discover Jericho and help us Rangers keep the show from extinction.

Truth Tour Behind the Truth Live from Atlanta

Exciting
I have had this DVD in on my wish list for a while. When the price went down, I had to order it! I really enjoy his shows and he has been on the award shows for the past 4 years and I was glad to see a 3 disc product for this artist.

Great DVD in concert
I cannot get enough of watching this concert, and every time I see it I catch something new I didn't see the 1st time. It's just mind blowing with all the details and non- stop entertainment. It's true that the last part of the DVD "Yeah" should have been put on DVD 2 then making a last DVD. Funny I was so caught up in the main concert on DVD 2 I didn't even watch the last DVD until the next day because I thought it would be as boring as the 1st DVD. My suggesting go right to DVD 2, and yes you do have to pop in 3 for the last and best part of the concert. Then when you're bored sit down and watch DVD 1 and rest of DVD 3. It had a lot of insight on it. I like the sit down with Usher and his Mom it gives great insight into their relationship as mother and son if you're interested. Then on his summer camp how Usher and his mom sponsors unprivileged kids every summer. So to me that's interesting if you're a fan and like to know more detailed in to what else is up with Usher. Last on...

Yeah!
This video was great - the only problem is that Yeah! was filmed on another disc which was kinda crazy that you have to watch another disc for the last song of the concert. I would still recommend this video to any Usher fan.

Burn Notice: Season One

"A spy is just a criminal with a government paycheck."
Michael Westen: "Most people would be thrilled to be dumped in Miami. Sadly, I am not most people...I've never found a good way to hide a gun in a bathing suit."

When you're a spy, getting a burn notice means that you've been officially deemed unreliable by your covert brethren, and that you're no longer wanted in the cloak-and-dagger community. Always good at rubbing people the wrong way, international spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan, TOUCHING EVIL) is in Nigeria brokering a deal with a terrorist when he learns of his burn notice over a cell phone. Barely skedaddling out of Nigeria with his life, Michael somehow finds himself stranded in his hometown of Miami, with his finances frozen, his options about nil, and former friends and colleagues keeping far, far away.

Michael decides to lay low for a while and, because a man has just got to make a living somehow, becomes a makeshift private investigator and troubleshooter. But, even as he takes on the criminal...

Super Smart and Funny Show
This is a don't miss show for many reasons--including multiple important characters--none of that one person on the screen all the time. Yet the male lead is not only caring, but clever and able to "MacGuyver" and improvise necessary equipment and tools. That adds so much to see inventiveness back on the tube instead of just standing around waiting for the laugh track. Additionally, the female lead LOOKS appropriate. She's an EXPERIENCED, beautiful "agent", member of the spy underground and for a blessed change--she's not some dumb bunny 19 year old. She looks strong, yet there is no fear in letting a little weariness appear on her face. She has earned it. Of course, the always hilarious and smack-on perfect comic timing expert--Bruce Campbell--is the third member of the team. Perfectly slimy, yet dependable in a pinch. This show uses the backdrop of Florida to a "T" and craft their show with good sense. These folks are not always on the right side of the "law". One of my...

Fantastic ;-)
I really love this show. It's one of my 'new' favourites. To be honest, I first started watching it because of Jeffrey Donovan, who plays the lead, Michael Weston. I used to watch him in The Pretender and Crossing Jordan and loved him, so I began to see what this was like. It's a great show and I make sure not to miss any episodes. Speaking of episodes, this is how season 1 plays out;
PILOT - Michael Weston, a contract agent for various agencies including the CIA, finds that a burn notice has been issued for him. Stranded in Miami, he takes the case of a caretaker accused of stealing millions from his boss.
IDENTITY - Weston is roped into helping his mother's friend get back money she lost in a scam, but Fi and Sam may ruin everything with their bumbling and bickering.
FIGHT OR FLIGHT - Michael's landlord, Oleg, is having a problem with one of his waitresses. She hasn't come into work because she witnessed a crime committed by a man who just happens to be a member...

ER: The Complete Ninth Season

Another great season of drama,
Spoilers: While the television show ER lost some of its finest cast members in the preceding years, including founders Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Julianna Margulies and the great Eriq LaSalle, it also gained some high calibre acting talent in the process.

Noah Wyle takes charge following the death of Mark Greene (in season eight), while Laura Innes's Kerry Weaver (a great characterization) continues with her usual ambitious plans, facing health and moral dilemmas on the way. Maura Tierney ably continues her role as Abby Lockhart, with Goran Visnjic maintaining his rebel ways. Newcomer Mekhi Phifer receives a top billing credit for his part as Gregory Pratt and although he has his moments, Sharif Atkins takes the upper hand with his portrayal of the likable Michael Gallant. Alex Kingston, a staple of the series has little to do this season while Sherry Stringfield returns as Susan Lewis, displaying some fine moments including a nice friendship with a terminal cancer...

Vitals still strong after nine years!
First off, it would be a lie to say the departures of Eriq La Salle and Anthony Edwards didn't hurt the show. They did. Dr. Greene was the heart of the ER, and Dr. Benton was the heart of the OR. After they both left the show in season eight, some reinventing would clearly be needed. ER continued on brilliantly for season nine. No, it was not the same show
it had been a season before, but season eight was much different than the first season. Nine was different. It had to be. It was not awful by any means.

Season nine picks up where eight left off. The hospital is in lockdown after a smallpox scare. It turns out the infection within County General is not smallpox, but monkeypox. Everyone is vaccinated and evacuated. Everyone except Carter, Abby, Chen and Pratt. During the evacuation, Dr. Romano is involved in an accident that will change the rest of his life. That accident has time and again been hailed as one of the most shocking moments of TV history!

The...

Just keeps getting better!
There is a void in the ER with Dr. Green and Dr. Benton gone and John Carter fills it nicely. It was really cool to see him and Abby get together finally. They have such great chemistry, even if its explosive at times! This season is just as good, maybe better, than the other seasons in my mind. If you love ER, this season is a must have in your collection. Can't wait for the next season to be released!

Hawaii Five-O - The Fourth Season

Another great season, another great DVD set!
Hawaii Five-0: The Fourth Season delivers more of what we love most about the show in 24 exciting remastered episodes.
All of the episodes are once again digitally remastered, looking very pristine for shows from 1971 that are 37 years old. The only hint of grain is in the occasional piece of stock footage that appears in the episodes.
Despite the now ubiquitous disclaimer on the box, none of the episodes appear to have been cut based on run times and my extensive memory of the shows from VHS tapings.

There is one small change from previous seasons: the discs themselves no longer feature artwork this time around, probably to save on costs. Instead, they are the standard CBS DVD silver with the show logo.

As before, episode promos are included for some of the shows, although fewer than in previous seasons.

This season is one of the very best, with a number of excellent episodes and very few stinkers, if any, in the bunch. In fact, a few of...

Five-O was hitting its stride!
Five-O started before I was born and ended before I really watched much TV. So I was relegated to watching the reruns with my grandfather and my dad. Well, now that the DVDs are out, I can't get enough of this show. It's amazing how good it is still today. Sure some of the dialog is now dated and the stories are very straight forward but that's what is so good about Hawaii Five-O. That and the fact that Steve McGarrett is the coolest cop IN THE WORLD. This season, we start to see some repeating themes from the first 3 seasons and it give the show some continuity and character development. Can't wait for 5 - 12 to be released!

Just keeps getting better and better!
McGarret and his crew are back and the bad guys in the Aloha State had better beware!
Season 4 roars right back with more great crime drama in the tropical paradise of Hawaii.
All the original cast is still here (Kono would leave after this season) and the stories are all great action-packed adventures.
Fans of Five-O won't be disappointed!
And yes, McGarret's arch-nemesis Wo Fat makes an appearance is an exciting two part episode.
There are some continuity flubs with McGarret's big Mercury - he's seen driving off in a 2 door hardtop and arriving on the scene in a 4 door hardtop! Ditto for the ambulance used in several episodes - it magically transforms from a Cadillac into a Pontiac!
Overall, this a well made set with terrific video/audio quality.
Book 'em, Danno!

The Tattooist

Supernatural thriller
This New Zealand-made film is quite different and original, about an American tattoo artist who becomes involved with a supernatural spirit related to Samoan tattoing and Somoan culture, and has to figure out what is going on and try to set things right (before anybody else dies). The acting, the cinematography, and the filmmaking are very high quality for a low budget independent type picture. There is a chilling 'backstory' of Jake's childhood that set him on his course as a globe trotting tattoo artist, collecting designs from other cultures, but the main action is set in Singapore and then mostly in New Zealand. There is a certain ick factor with the victims' inky deaths, but I wouldn't really call this a horror film, but more of a mysterious scary thriller. The action in the film makes sense within the culture of the story and there is a satisfactory resolution to things. The DVD 'extra stuff' is also very interesting. The New Zealand Somoans were so pleased with how their...

Tattooist
Jason Behr, who first came to my attention in the excellent werewolf movie 'Skinwalkers", is just as compelling in this very spooky thriller. This film was totally engaging and never thew me out of the story with bad acting, cinamatography, or irrevelance. As a long term fan of the thriller/horror genre it was great finding a film that I can watch again, and had what I found to be a unique and interesting story-line and cast. This is a definate keeper and not because of the brief shot of the back of Jason Behr's character standing nude before a huge picture glass window in Singapore.

The Tattooist
I was not sure what to expect, Since there were no reviews of this movie in the U.S, I am a Jason Behr fan so I relied on the information on his fan sites and from other fans that had already seen the movie. I thought it was a surprisingly and welcome, change to the usual blood and guts thriller movies in the U.S, It had imagination and uniqueness that we as americans have lost, its always about bigger and better explosions and CGI effects, this movie was well written and held your attention dispite that it was a low budget film, I never really felt that during the film, Jasons character had depth and seemed very real. I especially enjoyed the cultural aspect of the film, I learned a lot about New Zealand, I did not know before, and about the Samoan tattoo legends. Relying on your imagination gives your more possiblities then just knowing whats going to happen and then waiting to see how they planned on CGI'ing it to death. All in all this was a refreshing piece of...
