The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show: Complete Series

A Mini And Full Review
I say mini review because I've only wached the first disc in this set.

Well...where do I begin? This show is...well...very 70s and very silly. I know it was a kids show and I do remember watching this occasionally when I was a kid. However, to be perfectly honest, the show is better in hindsight. Unlike other kids shows, there really isn't much here for adults to enjoy. Any kid over the age of 12 would probably find this to be very boring.

Don't get me wrong. The show (at least what I've seen of it so far) does have its moments. Rod Hull and his Emu are quite funny at times. The Hudson Brothers are certainly fun to see again, but the main problem I have with the show is that it doesn't vary from the formula. At least not much. Every episode is practically the same as the one before it. Which doesn't make for marathon viewing all that enjoyable.

The picture quality is pretty good for a 30 year old 70s kids show. There doesn't appear to be any color...

Hudsons Dazzle at Last!
I was hoping someone would get around to releasing this series - at last, they have. Saturday mornings during the 1974-75 tv season were spent with the Hudson Brothers. Viewing the series today, I STILL laugh at the catchphrases from the show ("No thanks, we're trying to cut down. Frrm!" to Freddy, the kid tv exec). Like The Flintstones, the Jetsons, or Bullwinkle, this was a show aimed at the younger set but was filled with humor that older folks could appreciate as well. Top it off with great power-pop music by the Hudson Brothers (many of which were recorded specifically for the show and did NOT appear on their records) and this is one great set! The bonus is terrific: several of the funniest sketches from the Hudsons original summer replacement Wednesday night series. (I HOPE they get around to releasing THAT complete set...it may have been only four or five weeks long...but it has a few tunes I have never heard since then that I have been searching for SINCE 1974!).

It's great to see the Hudson Brothers again!
As a kid, I waited eagerly each week to see the next installment of The Hudson Brothers Razzle Dazzle Show on Saturday morning. Then, after the short run of 16 episodes were shown and repeated perhaps once or twice, the show left the airwaves and left me high and dry. For more than three decades, it seemed as if virtually all memory of this show had vanished. The Hudson Brothers themselves also rapidly faded from the scene. Thus, it was indeed a delightful surprise to see these shows resurface again in any form.

When I put in the first DVD, I was quite worried that the quality of the video and audio might be abysmal, but was pleased to find them amazingly well preserved. As was noted in another review, there is one episode in particular that exhibits a few video faults early into the program, but these clear up relatively quickly. There are also some odd edits or issues in the final two or three episodes that make one wonder if something might be missing from them. My...

The Sitter

For all those who love B type Thrillers !
This was a nice and suspensful B type Thriller movie that I really enjoyed. If you are into Thrillers in general, and don't mind low budget ones, you'll really like this one.
The plot is certainly nothing new; we've seen it all before with such thrillers as "The Hand that rocks the Cradle", and the like. But yet the story manages to get exciting every now and then. The acting was really convincing, and I always like to see new faces, which also made this movie likeable.
All other things, like picture & sound quality were good to excellent with this DVD. Go and see it if you're into thrillers, because you won't regret it.

;0)
Good movie but I must say This CHICK IS CRAZY! Wow like really, makes you think twice about babysitters, she went to babysit for a couple as a live in nanny she starts having an attraction for the husband and arms anyone who gets in her way even the wife. But in the end you will see or it will make sense why she was so into the husband.

THE HAND THAT TIPPED OVER THE CRADLE
Psycho babysitters are nothing new. Remember Rebecca DeMornay's HAND THAT ROCKS THE CRADLE?
This Lifetime movie was originally titled WHILE THE CHILDREN SLEEP is one of those guilty pleasures. Every move is calculated to be predictable: the lecherous partner of our ignorant dad; the nosy neighbor who knows too much; the workaholic mom who loses her child's affections; the mom's sexy and suspicious best friend. All fall prey to the malevolent sitter. The movie does have a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
Mariana Klaveno is quite good as Abby, the sitter, effortlessly switching from sweet to savage at the drop of a shovel. Gail O'Grady, William R Moses and Stacy Haiduk are good if not memorable.
THE SITTER is actually alittle better than most Lifetime flicks--nothing great but enjoyable.

It's a Boy Girl Thing

An Awesome Romantic Comedy!!!
This movie is very funny, and had a beautiful love story and message. It was like Freaky Friday, and The Hot Chick mixed together. Woody Deane and Nell Bedworth hate each other. They are neighbors who want nothing to do with each other. During a trip to a museum, and are forced to work together, and they begin to argue in front of a statue of the ancient Aztec god Tezcatlipoca. The statue casts a spell on them, and they wake up to swapped bodies. Woody has become Nell, and Nell has become Woody. In the process of trying to figure out how to change back, they intentionally destroy each others' social life. After Woody sticks up for Nell, they slowly begin to fall in love. I highly recommend IT'S A BOY GIRL THING!!!

When the girl has a hard time...
Gender swap comedies are a motif that Hollywood revisits every decade or so. There was Switch (1991), The Hot Chick (2002), and now It's a Boy Girl Thing. Coming out of the 80s, when women wore square shoulder corporate suits and fought the glass ceiling, there was an aggression that Ellen Barkin captured. Coming out of the 90s, when gender confusion as hip, the Hot Chick followed suit. These days however, when (young) girls flash gang signs on myspace, Muay Thai kickbox each other on the head on youtube, and curse like truck drivers, Samaire Armstrong , playing her neighbor Woody trapped within, has a much harder time showcasing the rift between the sexes.

I mean c'mon: Girls today act more like boys than boys girls.

With all her shrugs, posturing, manly strut, spitting, and cursing bravado, it all but sounds like a typical girl I see in the malls.

Kevin Zegers, on the other hand, lives up to the part by pulling out all the stops on the suddenly...

I didn't rent it but... it made me laugh.
"It's is a boy girl thing" isn't the kind of movie I'd normally rent. In fact, I didn't rent it, but when I found it in my house, I gave in to temptation and watched it. I must confess it made me laugh.

This film is very predictable, but quite funny, despite the fact that the humor is rather crude sometimes... The two main characters are Nell (Samaire Armstrong), a bright and somewhat nerdy young woman, and Woody (Kevin Zegers), a football player that has the popularity that Nell lacks, but isn't very accustomed to using his brain. Even though these typical albeit very different teenagers can't stand each other, they will have to reach a compromise, due to an spell that ends up switching their bodies. Confusion ensues, as you can imagine...

All in all, I think that those that are expecting the classic high school comedy will like it, if their expectations are just to have some fun... If that is your case, recommended.

Kathy Troccoli Greatest Video Hits

Kathy Troccoli Greatist Video Hits
It is an excellent video. My grandson (age 4 ) loves it and requests it often. I enjoy it also. I wish she had more videos available.

A Decent Effort
The videos included are great, but it's missing essentials. The most obvious, where is "Tell Me Where It Hurts"?? It's not as if Kathy has too many videos to fit on one DVD, they should all be on here.

Galaxy High School Collection

Different Galaxy, but Same Students
This was actually a phenomenal cartoon of the 80s and it is sad it did not last long. It centers around the jock Doyle and the smart geeky girl Amy. They go to high school in outer space and Amy suddenly becomes popular. Doyle becomes the outcast who has to prove himself. What makes this cartoon so great is that we have aliens who are exaggerations of the human condition. (Gilda Gossip the gossip girl has several mouths.) Doyle is befriended by the geeky, but kind hearted and smart Milo.

Doyle is an interesting main character in that he is neither remarkably altruistic, nor remarkably selfish. At his worst, he is either full of himself such as in "It Came From Earth," or his faults hurt his friends around him such as in "The Brain Blaster." At his best, he is the voice of reason who holds everyone together such as in "Where's Milo?" Doyle's arguably greatest moment is in "Where's Milo?" Milo messes up and makes several people angry at him; he disappears, and most of the...

Feel good cartoon candy...
I'd vaguely remembered this series from when I was a kid. Since I love a good trip down memory lane, I decided that I'd recheck this series out. It's almost as good as I remembered it. There's a lot that is more enjoyable as a kid, but there's also a lot of stuff that I appreciate more as an adult. Like another reviewer put it, the characters in this cartoon all represent various character types of teenage life. While this series does try to send out a message, they also make the attempt to make the series enjoyable as well.

The plot centers around Doyle (an athlete who chose to not study) as well as the brainy Amy, who is the smartest girl in school. The show tries it's best to show how important school is (Amy gets a scholarship & pretty much everything she always wanted such as clothes, friends, ect while Doyle ends up working at a pizza parlor to make ends meet) while showing that with a bit of hard work anyone can succeed.

I'm debating showing this to my...

Brings back memories...
I remember watching these cartoons back in the 80's/90's and loving the artwork and concept. I was quite pleased to bring back these classic cartoons...

The Jungle Book 2 (Special Edition)

Pleasing sequel to classic original
Some of the reviews here appear abit premature (the last couple I read were from people who hadn't even seen the movie--they judged it from the trailer!). In many respects Jungle Book 2 could, on the surface, look like a cash-in similar to the Peter Pan sequel Return to Neverland (that film had been planned as a direct-to-video release originally but turned out looking so good that it was released theatrically). That's hardly the case with Jungle Book 2.

The animation uses many of the design elements from the original film and incorporates some nice computer generated imagery as well. It's a bit surprising that folks expect the voices of the original actors. The original Jungle Book was released in 1967 (if memory serves) and all the original actors have been dead for quite some time.

The voice casting for the sequel is quite good. Haley Joel Osmond (A.I., The Sixth Sense)makes a fine Mowogli and John Goodman as Baloo captures his character perfectly without imitating the late...

OK, another sequel by Disney
When I wrote these lines, there were 4 reviews on Amazon.com. None of the reviewers seemed to have seen the movie. - Well, I have seen it with my 2 1/2 year old son. I also know Disney's first Jungle Book movie. Now here is what I think:

This movie is fine for kids. They will have fun. There are no scenes that I think are too scary for small children. My son was doing fine. He enjoyed the song and dance scenes a lot and I think this is why most people like the first movie. Since the "Bear Necessities" is such a great song, it is played about three times (make your own thoughts about that). So, if you want your kids to have a good day at the movies, send them to this one.

From an adult point of view I must say that the story is not very exciting. Don't forget, this is a Disney sequel again. Disney used to release their sequels only on video and DVD (e.g. Pocahontas 2, Arielle 2, etc.). But lately they think that they should show them in movie theaters. It's too bad that Disney...

Kids will dig it, Adults will hate it
A die-hard Disney fan, I grew up with the original Jungle Book. The music, the voices, and the animation entrenched themselves so deeply into my psyche that no sequel could have done the original justice. The producers of this one must have understood that there are many like myself. So instead of tackling the challenge of producing a film to rival Walt's original masterpiece, Disney took the easy road. The result is no more than a delightly animated saturday morning kids cartoon that will keep a kid busy for an hour but will leave their parents rather frustrated. If you're looking for a tribute to- or even a continuation of- the original Jungle Book, you won't find it in this film.

First let me tell you what I liked about the movie: The animation is great! In this aspect (and this aspect only) the producers have replicated and improved on the animation of the first. The jungle is enchanting as ever, the leaves greener. Also brilliant is the voice of Jim Cummings as Kaa and...

Anthony Warrior of God

Generic and Uninspiring
This film version of the great St. Anthony of Padua is quite disappointing in that it misses the real essence of this incredible saint, and presents him as some kind of "revolutionary" and corruption seeker, even going after Church officials, etc.

Sorry, the real Saint Anthony was a very holy, learned man who loved God and man devoutly and wholeheartedly, a deeply spiritual, prayerful man whose closeness to almighty God gave him even miraculous powers to heal the sick, raise the dead, and convert the most hardened sinners. He was not a "warrior" or a "revolutionary" - he was a great Saint, one who closely imitated Christ.

A much better film version is the film "SAINT ANTHONY", starring Italian actor Daniele Liotti, also available on Amazon.

"I Want You All In Paradise!" ~ Discerning The Heart Of The World
Note: Italian with English subtitles.

The '06 film `Anthony: Warrior of God' tells the story of the 13th century Catholic saint in a reverent manner accompanied by a wonderful soundtrack which adds substantially to the feel of holiness surrounding this cinematic feature. The production values are superior and Jordi Molla is wonderful as the impassioned Franciscan monk and self-proclaimed defender of the poor and disenfranchised. His battle against the corrupt civil authorities, the ruthless money lenders and yes, even the Catholic Church is well done and believable.

There is much in here that reminds me of Franco Zeffirelli's `Brother Sun, Sister Moon' which happens to be one of my favorite films. While `Anthony: Warrior of God' has the look and feel of the Italian classic from '72, particularly in the segment at the Vatican during his audience with the Pope, it falls short of duplicating the simple, innocent charm and emotional impact of the Saint Francis...

not good
not well done at all - not velar to understand many things - would not recommend it and in fact we got rid of it immediately after watching it the first time -
